The housing for the UFV-2S-260 contains two strainer tubes in series with two filter tubes with covers and one pump tube. A lift bale centered between the filter and strainer tubes is provided for lifting the UFV-2S-260. The housing is constructed of 304 stainless steel.
Operation of the UFV-2S-260: Unfiltered water from the cavity pool enters from the two attached suction hoses and into the two strainer tubes having installed strainers. Strained water then enters the filter tubes having installed filter cartridges. Filtered water from the filter housings pass through a common bottom tunnel connected to the pump housing. The submersible pump draws water from the pump housing and discharges filtered water back to the cavity pool. Filters placed into the filter housings are sealed by an O-ring mounted in the filter tube sheet. Negative pressure developed in the filter cartridges provide a positive seal between the filter cartridge and the mounted o-ring. The pump housing and interconnecting strainer piping have a 1/2”drain holes drilled through the bottom support plate to allow for filling or draining water from the five 8” housings.
Basic Operation
Tri Nuclear Corp.
During refueling outages and periods of underwater work activity at nuclear power stations, it is necessary to filter the water to maintain water clarity. Also, it is good practice to vacuum up loose crud pockets or sludge which has accumulated around underwater equipment or in the general bottom areas of pools. To meet this need, Tri Nuclear Corp. initiated a program in 1977 to design, manufacture and market a new family of Underwater Filter/Vacuum units which are currently in use in virtually every plan in the U.S. and many overseas plants.
