The housing for the UF-1000 contains eight filters and one pump tube. The housing is constructed of 304 stainless steel.
Operation of the UF-1000: Unfiltered water from the cavity pool enters the top of the eight filters cartridges. Filtered water passing through the filter cartridges pass through a common bottom tunnel connected to the pump housing. The submersible pump draws water from the pump housing and discharges filtered water back to the cavity pool via two 4”diameter discharge hoses. Filters placed into the filter housings are sealed by an O-ring mounted in the filter tube sheet. Negative pressure developed in the filter cartridges provide a positive seal between the filter cartridge and the mounted o-ring. The pump housing has two 1/2”drain holes drilled through the bottom support plate to allow for filling or draining water from the equipment tube housings.
Basic Operation
Tri Nuclear Corp.
During refueling outages and periods of underwater work activity at nuclear power stations, it is necessary to filter the pool cavity water to maintain water clarity. To meet this need, Tri Nuclear Corp. initiated a program in 1977 to design, manufacture and market a new family of Underwater Filter/Vacuum units which are currently in use in virtually every plant in the U.S. and many overseas plants.
The UF-1000 is the largest of these units.
The eight filters draw in dirty water and discharge filtered water via the submersible pump and two discharge hoses to remote areas of the pool allowing it to:
