The housing for the UFV-600 is similar to the standard UF-600 housing; however, it has been modified for vacuuming operations.  The modifications include adding two common suction connections, using 2-1/2” vacuum hoses, and (4) filter tube covers.

The housing for the UFV-600 contains four filter tubes with covers and one pump tube.  A centered swing lift bale over the pump housing is provided for lifting the UFV-600.    The housing is constructed of 304 stainless steel.

Depending on the mode of operation, water is drawn into the filters through the top of the open filter tubes or through the 2-1/2” suction hoses.  The “dirty” water is drawn down through the (4) filters.  Water then enters the pump tube through four tunnels at the bottom of the pump tube. The pump tube has two 1/2”drain holes drilled through the bottom plate to allow water to drain from the housing when removing it from the pool.  When a filter is placed into the filter housing, it is sealed by an O-ring mounted in the filter tube sheet and the negative pressure caused by the pump suction.

Basic Operation

Tri Nuclear Corp.

During refueling outages and periods of underwater work activity at nuclear power stations, it is necessary to filter the pool cavity water to maintain water clarity.  To meet this need, Tri Nuclear Corp. initiated a program in 1977 to design, manufacture and market a new family of Underwater Filter/Vacuum units which are currently in use in virtually every plant in the U.S. and many overseas plants. The UFV-600 is one of these units.

The four filter housings draw in dirty water and discharge filtered water via the submersible pump and two discharge hoses to remote areas of the pool allowing it to:
