The UDFS-48’s unique design allows for the demineralizer to be operated underwater and under negative pressure.  This design feature eliminates the need for special bolted pressure closure on the pump housing requiring tooling for operation.  The pump housing seals with a simple flat cover plate held in place by negative pressure during operation.

Unfiltered water enters the UDFS-48 via one 2-1/2” suction hose and into a suction strainer (sized to meet customer needs).   The strained water then travels through the demineralizer bed to the 7 mil outlet let screen elements, then through a 15 mil outlet safety screen,  to the suction of the UDFS-48 pump and out the discharge of the pump. 

The UDFS-48 also has top camlock connections for sluicing in and out of resin.  The resin can be sluiced while the unit is underwater.

Basic Operation

During refueling outages and decommissioning activities at nuclear power stations, it is necessary to maintain water clarity, chemistry, and vacuum debris in the spent fuel pool and reactor cavity.

Tri Nuclear Corp.  has developed an all in one unit, the Underwater Demineralizer Filter/Strainer unit to meet this need.
